We visited the Bedford Basin Lion’s park in perfect time because the tide was low.  The kids caught small Crabs, Starfish and  Mussels and threw them back into the ocean.  Iris opened one of the mussels to find an orange slimy creature inside.   We felt the difference between the baby starfish and the larger one.  The baby starfish was soft and the older one felt more like the ones you can buy at a store.  Iris and Gus spent hours climbing over the various rocks to find the ocean treasures.

We learned what barnacles were.  They are shells that grow on rocks.  I can honestly say I did not like the looks of them.  It was just weird how they grow on rocks and hard surfaces.

Greek Islands

Destinations, Dining, Transportation

This was an enjoyable excursion visiting various Greek Islands.  I paid 35 Euro for a boat trip to Thirasi to see the volcano and swim in the hot springs and later see Oia.

The bus ride to the port was also beautiful!  The circle in the sea was to alert water crafts that there are ruins of a sunken ship.  They decided it was too costly to remove the ruins.  The area is now attracted by divers.

Okanagan Lake, Kelowna, BC September 2017, I spent an enjoyable day with friends on their pontoon boat, cruising the beautiful Okanagan Lake which is 84 miles long.   We started out with a fantastic lunch at The Cactus Club on the shoreline of the Okanagan Lake. The service and food are always excellent there.  I have had the fish tacos several times because they are one of the most tasty I have ever had.

This time a couple of us enjoyed the Salt&Pepper Wings and the fish looked delicious.  We all enjoyed our choices off the menu.

Just a short walk through the Marina and we arrived at Gary and Cheryle’s pontoon boat. Len and Donna and I were fortunate to have been invited for this wonderful day on the lake.  One side of the lake is quite barren...

This quaint winery is not far from Summerland.  This vineyard follows six different lunar rhythms and the vineyards are treated to listening to classical music during their growing season.  They still use old fashioned methods while harvesting the grapes and are Eco Friendly.  We were there on two different occasions.  The first time we ordered the sausage and cheese platter with very hard crackers.  I suggest you bring your own snacks which is 100% acceptable.

Freedom Beach is recommended as a beautiful beach to escape to.  It was a bit off the beaten path.  Our taxi driver even had trouble finding it.  We had to pay 200 baht to go to the beach. The monkey there was very wild and they had it chained up.  That is not common, so I am thinking this must have been a really bad monkey.

The view was gorgeous.  The amount of stairs that we walked down to get to the beach was overwhelming.  I swear there must have been one hundred stairs. I couldn’t even get them all in one picture.  When you got close to the sea you could go left up the path. So there was more climbing and then coming down again...

My flight with WestJet from Kelowna, BC to Vancouver went well.  Vancouver has been voted as the best airport in Canada and North America.  Four hours later I was on my way to Guangzhou, China with China Southern Airlines.  The flight and comfort was as good as it could get for a 14 hour flight.  The airline attendants were very accommodating and it always helps to have your personal TV to watch movies.  I have flown to Guangzhou airport before and was pleased to be in the newly built airport.  The 5 hour layover gave me lots of time to explore.  I chuckled when I saw a modern Squatter in the bathroom. This one was very nice considering some of the ones I had to use in the past years of travel.

The Celebrity Constellation Cruise Ship took us from Singapore to Brunei, Ho Chi Minh, South Vietnam, Bangkok and Ko Samui, Thailand and back to Sigapore.  Our cruise ship had  three pools and four jet tubs.  One of the pools and jet tubs were indoors, to get away from the hot sun or rainy weather.  I enjoyed swimming while the ship was sailing because it was more challenging to swim in the current of the salt water pool.  Our life guard consisted of a huge green ape, holding a big fish, which towered over us.

There was always music playing while swimming or hanging around on the deck.  If there wasn’t a live band, recorded music would be playing.  The live entertainment was always good and some of us would get up and dance.

The food on the cruise was excellent and I don’t think there was ever a time that you couldn’t eat something.  We were assigned a table for the 8pm seating.  We could either choose the buffet, which was excellent or dine with our assigned guests.  The formal restaurant was flexible if you wished to sit at another table. The service was top notch and the food presentation and taste were excellent.  Lobster night in the dining room was my favourite...

After two days at sea our first stop on our Celebration Cruise was Brunei, a very small island bordering Malaysia and the South China Sea.  This was the first time this cruise line embarked there.  Not knowing that you could walk a short ways to catch a bus for two Singapore dollars, we paid the cruise line $54 to take us to the main city. Other cruise members booked their tours through Celebration.  Brunei currency has various colors similar to the Canadian currency.  Singapore and Brunei share the same currency.  At the end of my cruise when I went back to Singapore, the taxi driver was pleased to see a Brunei dollar.  The vendors in Brunei are not pushy as in some other countries.

After the 14 day Celebrity Cruise I stayed one more night in Singapore at the Mercure Singapore Bugis.  When I booked through Expedia I did not realize there were two Mercure Hotels in Singapore until I arrived at the other Mercure Roxy where we had stayed before the cruise.  Mercure Bugis is further away from the airport, but I had prepaid $190 for my room.  It is a very modern flair.  My room was very small, containing two twin beds.  If there would have been two of us we would have had to put our luggage out in the hallway.  Yes, it was that small and did not even have a real closet.  But it was pretty and the view and infinity pool was fabulous!  The little Asian boy was so interested in me, that it made me laugh. a very modern flair...

Singapore and Sentosa Island

Sentosa Island is an extension of beautiful Singapore. My favorite tour was the sky tram over to Sentosa Island.  However I would have loved to explore even more but ou time ran out.  We also experienced quite a few rain showers during our time there.  The giant Merlion stands tall as it protects the island of Sentosa.  I found the Merlion a little intimidating at first.  We explored this special island on our own while we waited for the light show to start.  There were many unique vendor shops, etc to explore.  The view of the sunset from the white sand beach was intriguing.

The flight to Singapore was interesting.  There were clear skies, so I could see all of the islands and I was excited to be flying over Malaysia.  We were fingerprinted in the airport upon arrival.  I am thinking that is a great idea for our safety.
We really enjoyed our five days in Singapore, but we could have easily stayed for at least ten days.  There are so many awesome things to do and see there.  It is also a great place to take kids.  They do get a lot of rain creating a beautiful jungle like setting.  Just remember your umbrella!

The government raised the price of vehicles to double of what we would pay in Canada, so that roads are not overly congested.  Chewing gum is illegal and there are very high fines or jail for littering. This keeps the city very clean...

Mount Princeton Spa is situated in The Rocky Mountains, just a few hours drive south from Denver, Colorado.   There is a separate pool and area for adults only.  The pools and building for all ages has a very hot pool and a warm pool.  We enjoyed the warm pool and floating was easy in the naturally salty water.  We spent most of our time enjoying the natural springs.  There were mini pools of water surrounded by rocks.  The mountain stream cooled off the rocks, and the sand held the hot water.  We stirred up the sand with our feet every so often to heat up our pool of water.  The kids enjoyed climbing over the rocks to discover other pools of water.  We each found a rock to lean up against and soak in the salty, warm water...

The four hour drive south to Mal Pais displayed more dry terrain with much dead vegetation.  Skilled drivers are required to drive the very narrow, bumpy, dirt road leading to Mal Pais.  The only road that I could see had been paved, but now featured mainly dirt patches, many potholes and loose gravel.  It did not take long to figure out that your life was at risk walking on this sidewalk free trail of madness.  It seemed that many of the drivers would rather hit you than a pothole.  There were surfers on their bicycles with a rigged up board holder. The surf boards were horizontal and could cut you in half if you didn’t jump out of the way.  I recommend sunglasses so that the flying gravel might protect your eyes when the vehicles go screaming by...

A two hour drive and a rickety road brought us to Montezuma.  I immediately could feel the charm in this little village.  We had time to take a few pictures before launching the speed boat to go across the Gulf of Nicoya and dock at Jaco.  There were no docks on Montezuma and Jaco beaches. The crew wrapped our huge bags with plastic and loaded one suitcase on each shoulder. Then they had to fight with the waves to get the bags on.  It was amazing how strong they were.  Needless to say, we did get wet. It was hot day so we did not mind.Montezuma
