Greek Islands

Destinations, Dining, Transportation

This was an enjoyable excursion visiting various Greek Islands.  I paid 35 Euro for a boat trip to Thirasi to see the volcano and swim in the hot springs and later see Oia.

The bus ride to the port was also beautiful!  The circle in the sea was to alert water crafts that there are ruins of a sunken ship.  They decided it was too costly to remove the ruins.  The area is now attracted by divers.

We had a walk up bar to buy refreshments and snacks.  We  sat on the top deck at tables.  We had a great view.  A young couple from the USA, and three younger people from Sweden joined me at my table. The Swedish

Gili Air Island, Indonesia

Gili Air

Gili Air

Gili Air is a very small island that is a part of Indonesia.  We took a 2 hour taxi ride from Kuta to the marina and then an hour and half water taxi to Gili Air.  This was our 4 night reprieve from the busy city of Kuta.  There were only horse and buggies, bicycles and your feet to get around Gili Island.  It takes about 40 minutes to walk around the island.  The blue water and white sand are very much like the Carribean.  The sad part is that parts of the beach and ocean were flooded with human garbage.  The locals at Gili said it came from the island of Lombok which was a short boat ride across from Gili.  Rumors also suggested that the garbage may have come from the Japan Tsunami.  Nothing like good old corn on the cob!
